Wood and Findings
These carvings I made from Palm Petioles I removed from a tree in out yard. When I was cleaning these dead pieces from my tree, they asked me to bring them back to life.. The big one is about 8 feet tall. They are varnished / teak oiled as well so, they will last a very long time. I carved the faces out with various tools and used a torch from behind for contrast. The material is pretty tough actually, far tougher than I expected. I did a bit of a red wash on Kapu and went with the character of the wood on the other two. I will be painting on a couple of these soon, probably Florida native fish.
These are the first three I have made. Latest on the top and the first one I made (Kahoni) on the bottom. Now all I need is a Tiki Bar!
Name of this one is: Pualala Malu (Sudden loud outcry of peace)
Kapu ( Sacred, taboo, forbidden, no trespassing)
Kahoni (the kiss)
